Nika the Kitten
a magical story
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Nika. More than anything, she loved to play. And her favourite game of all was… transforming!

One morning, Nika whispered the magic words: “Meow-meow… TRANSFORM!”

And — poof! — Nika grew soft little ears. Poof! A fluffy tail! Then one more poof — and Nika was a kitten!

Everything around her was enormous! The sofa was like a ship on the ocean.

The climbing frame was like a ladder reaching all the way to the sky!

And on the sofa-ship sat a crew! Three fluffy cats. “Hello! I’m Lilibell!” “I’m Amelia!” “And I’m Shokoladka!” “Meow! I’m Nika! Can I join your crew?”

The crew went into the playroom. The mirrored closet doors slid softly apart… And behind them was a magical cave!

The crew climbed into the closet. Inside, it was dark, quiet and mysterious. Suddenly, something sparkled ahead… Treasure! An old ring with a golden stone!

They slipped the treasure onto Nika’s tail to keep it safe. Just like a crown! “And what’s that little red ball of yarn? Let me play with it!”

Nika rolled the yarn into the playroom. She played and played until she was all wound up in a ball herself! Just like a fluffy little present!

Then Nika hid in a box — because kittens REALLY love boxes! Lilibell, Amelia and Shokoladka searched and searched, but they couldn’t find her anywhere!

Nika ran to the kitchen. Pad, pad, pad — her soft paws made no sound at all. Nobody, not a soul, heard her!

In the kitchen, Nika lapped milk from a little white saucer. With her tongue! Lap, lap, lap. It wasn’t easy at all — but it was delicious!

Nika jumped onto the soft stool by the window. Beyond the glass, cars drove past and windows glowed. She could see the whole street, just as if she were looking down from a ship’s mast!

“Where’s my little girl? Nika, where are you?” “Meow,” Nika answered. “Meow-meow.” But Daddy didn’t understand cat language.

So Nika whispered, “Meow-meow… CHANGE BACK!” Poof! Poof! Poof! Right before Daddy’s eyes, the kitten became Nika the girl again! Daddy gasped in surprise!

“Daddy, Daddy! I was a kitten!” Nika cried. “I sailed on a ship! And we found real treasure in a magic house!” “I knew it,” Daddy smiled. “Someone lapped up all the milk in that saucer!”

That evening, Nika fell asleep in her little bed. Lilibell, Amelia and Shokoladka sat beside her. They knew just what had happened that day! And on the pillow lay a little red ball of yarn. Tomorrow, she could transform all over again!
